Masala Mackerel Curry (with Tomato Sauce)

Perfect for lunch or dinner — pairs well with steamed rice or chapatti

Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

  • 1 can mackerel in tomato sauce (use the sauce too)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ½ inch ginger, grated
  • 1 green chilli, slit
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh coriander, for garnish
  • Salt (only if needed taste the canned sauce first)

Tips

  • Add a splash of coconut milk for a South Indian touch.
Instructions
    1. Heat oil in a pan. Sauté onion, ginger, garlic, and green chilli until golden.
    2. Add tomato and cook till soft. Mix in turmeric, coriander, and cumin powder.
    3. Pour in the tomato sauce from the can and simmer for 2 minutes.
    4. Gently add mackerel pieces and cook on low flame for 3–4 minutes.
    5. Finish with garam masala and fresh coriander.
