Sardine Masala Toast

A crunchy, spicy snack or light breakfast

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1 can Munnujii Sardines (in oil or sauce), drained
  • 4 bread slices (brown or multigrain)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped (seeds removed)
  • ½ green chilli, chopped (optional)
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp butter or ghee

Tips

  • Pat the sardines dry with a tissue before mixing, so your toast stays crisp.
  • Add a squeeze of lime to the filling for extra zing.
  • For kids, skip green chilli and add grated cheese on top before toasting.
  • Whole-wheat or sourdough bread gives a nice texture and earthy flavour.
Method
    1. Flake the sardines into a bowl. Mix with onion, tomato, chilli, garam masala, and pepper.
    2. Lightly butter the bread. Spread the sardine mix evenly.
    3. Toast on a tawa or sandwich press until crisp and golden.
    4. Serve with mint chutney or ketchup.
